IGP Idris order arrest and detention of five for raid on Edwin Clark’s home

The Police have ordered the arrest and detention of five persons who raided the home of statesman and Minister of Information in the First Republic, Chief Edwin Clark.

Police spokesman Jimoh Moshood in a statement Tuesday night said the raid was illegal, and that Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the immediate arrest of four officers and an informant identified as having carried out the exercise.

“The Inspector-General of Police is not aware and did not order the raid of the residence of the Elder Statesman, Chief Edwin Clark,” Moshood said.

Moshood said the IGP has directed the detention and investigation of those involved.

“The outcome of the investigation will definitely be made public,” he said.

Clark, one of the most influential leaders of the Niger Delta and a major backer of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has in concert with other Niger Delta leaders, as well as some other Southern leaders, been pushing for the restructuring of Nigeria.
