Umahi lists E-Voting as panacea to election violence

The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, yesterday, said if political violence, desperation and rigging must stop during elections, Nigeria should adopt the E-voting electoral system.

He further stated that, the Party, People’s Democratic Party , (PDP), has no anointed candidate for 2023 general elections, neither will they impose it on anyone.

He added that he would allow the will of God to prevail on who emerges as the president come 2023.

Umahi made this known at the grand finale of the PDP Local Government election in the state, at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.

He called on the PDP National Working Committee, (NWC) to lead by example by adopting the E-voting system during its primaries.

Umahi assured the support of other governors of the party towards its actualization.

He said the Chairmanship and Councellorship candidate of the party emerged from free and fair elections.

The Governor adviced the candidates to ensure that the needed infrastructural development in the state are carried out, adding that they should make judicious use OF government funds and shun any form of embezzlement.

On his part, the party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, promised that the party will support in the implementation of the E-voting system so as to help in curbing electoral violence.

Secondus who condemned the killings and destruction of public properties during elections, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to adopt the electronic system of voting while conducting elections.
