Edo 2020: Ize-Iyamu promises greater investment in education in Edo, decried shortage of teachers

The candidate of the APC in the Edo Governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has lamented the shortage of teachers in Edo State, especially in rural areas, as one of the factors inhibiting learning in the State and promised to solve the problem with recruitment of teachers and other investments in the education sector.
He said this on Tuesday during his ward-to-ward campaign at Arokho, Otuo, and Uahumi communities in Owan East Local Government Council of Edo State.
According to him, the incumbent’s poor investments in the state’s education sector and the consequent poor student-teacher ratio has imperiled the state’s education system and denied children, particularly those in rural communities, access to quality education needed for a strong foundational learning and a great future.
He said: “We have schools and no teachers to teach our students; teachers retire on a daily basis but the present state government has refused to employ more teachers.”
“I promise to prioritize the employment of teachers in our schools to ensure our students get the right knowledge to become future leaders.”
He also promised to solve the problem of insecurity by supporting and empowering local vigilante groups to allow for effective community policing and provision of local intelligence to the Police for speedy investigations and crime prevention.
Ize-Iyamu assured residents of the communities in Owan East that his administration will make functional, the skill acquisition centers and hospital built by Hon. Pally Iriase, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives.
“My Simple Agenda is to make life better for all Edo people through manpower development, job creation, leadership by example, infrastructural development among others,” he said.
“This council is known for farming, I promise to assist farmers with loans and farm inputs if elected as Edo Governor.”
He also promised broadband development and access to telecommunication to raise standard of living in the communities, facilitate smooth exchange of information and ideas, and digital inclusion that would spur development through learning and unfettered access to knowledge.
