BREAKING: Senators meeting with Buhari over IGP Idris

Some senators are currently in a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting centres around the lawmakers’lingering dispute with Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, who has on three occasions refused to honour summons by the Senate for him to appear and explain the what the Police is doing to check the worsening security situation in the country.

The IGP was also accused by Saraki of plotting to frame him up in a crime allegedly committed by some suspects in an ongoing criminal case in Kwara State. Saraki said pursuant to the IGP’s plan, the suspects undergoing interrogation in Kwara State had been transferred to Abuja to make statements to implicate him. The police confirmed transferring the suspects, but advised Saraki not to interfere with ongoing police investigations.

Following Saraki’s allegation, which was macde during plenary in the Senate, the legislators set up a nine-man committee on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 to visit President Buhari and apprise him of Saraki’s allegation. Senators in the delegation meeting with Buhari are: Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan; Chief Whip Olusola Adeyeye; Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio; Danjuma Goje; Sam Anyanwu; Aliyu Wammako; Fatima Raji-Rasaki; and Oluremi Tinubu.
