Stop harassing Frank, put your house in order, PDP tells APC

By Chukwuebuka Chukwunonyelum

Comrade Frank had in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari released on Sunday, accused the President of watching as things slid from bad to worse in the country. Frank said he had no option than to apologise to former President Goodluck Jonathan who he criticized ceaselessly as things appeared better under him than under Buhari who came preaching change.

The APC reacting to the letter, disowned Frank saying he spoke in his personal capacity and not as a member of the party since he had been placed on suspension by the party in November 2016 on recommendation by the South South Zonal Committee of the APC.

“Whatever position Timi Frank holds or canvasses is done in his personal capacity and has no bearing on the APC. Timi Frank has since November 2016 been suspended as a member of the APC”, Bolaji Abdullahi, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, said.

The PDP in its reaction on Monday, charged the APC “to stop the unwarranted attack against Timi Frank and others who boldly state the truth, particularly as the current tide of our nation requires the support of patriots, who will rise above partisan sentiments”.

Addressing President Buhari to whom Frank directed his letter, the PDP said the President should not be silent but should respond to the issues Frank raised in the letter.

“President Buhari’s response has become imperative given the weighty issue of humongous corruption, intimidation of citizens, erosion of freedom, constitutional breaches and persecution of citizens under the guise of fight against corruption, for which Nigerians and the international community demand immediate explanations,” the PDP said in the Monday statement signed by Kola Ologondiyan, its National Publicity Secretary.

The party commended Frank for his action, which it described as “patriotic, bold, courageous and in the interest of the nation”.

“We therefore urge other democrats and public-spirited persons in the APC to speak out for our nation and take the bold step of withdrawing from the APC and rallying with other well-meaning Nigerians in the repositioned PDP. We implore them to come and join hands with other democrats, who are daily working on the modality to rescue the soul of our nation from the stranglehold of the APC and the Buhari Presidency,” the PDP said in the statement.
