Child rape victim, Ochanya, buried in Benue
Ochanya Ogbanje, the 13-year-old girl, who died on October 17 after being allegedly raped by her guardian Andrew Ogbuja, a lecturer at the Benue State Polytechnic, and his son, Victor, has been buried,
She was buried on Friday in her hometown, Ogene Amejo, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Ochanya, a Junior Secondary School (JSS)1 student of the Federal Government College, Gboko, Benue State, died from complications arising from her suffering from Vesico Vaginal Fistula(VVF) after been a victim of vaginal and anal rape for five years. Ochanya was living with the Ogbujas when the crime allegedly took place.
Ogbuya is alleged to have repeatedly raped Ochanya from the time she was eight years old
Ogbuja was arrested by the police and arraigned before a Benue court. He has been remanded in prison until November 29. His son, and alleged accomplice, Victor has fled.
The death of the little girl has both shocked and angered the nation with civil society organizations organizing protests in several cities in the country including Abuja, the nation’s capital. Many of them attended her burial on Friday.
