The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has commended the FRSC Rescue and emergency response team for what he termed a rare demonstration of bravery, professionalism, and resilience after successfully rescuing six victims of road traffic crashes from a deadly containerised crash, a statement by Olusegun Ogungbemide, Corps Public Education Officer, said.
One of the crashes, which occurred as a result of break failure happened in the morning and involved two containerized trucks, a red Mack truck and green Mack truck, on the Apapa-Wharf route near Flour Mill, six kilometers from Mile 2, Lagos State.
Crash investigation report submitted by the rescue team revealed that four people all males, were involved in the crash. One was rescued with injuries, including bruises and cuts, while the remaining three survived the crash unhurt.
The second crash which involved a Toyota Corolla with registration number LSD293HJ, and a Mack truck occurred on 25 November, 2024 on Euro 65 -Signal Baracks route, Mile 2 Oke, Lagos State.
The crash involved two people in a Toyota Corolla saloon car. The victims were rescued alive by the proactiveness of FRSC rescue team after the Mack truck (a 40 feet container truck) crashed and landed on the saloon car.
Commenting on the rescue efforts, Ogungbemide said the mileage achieved through these proactive approaches were recorded at the expense of Corps Marshal’s earlier directive to operatives to assert high level of professionalism and promptness to rescue of crash victims as the end of the year travels gather momentum.
“Expectedly, the Corps Marshal charged drivers to maintain minimum safety standards while admonishing fleet operators to ensure that their drivers are subjected to adequate training so as to acquaint them with the basics of contemporary dynamics of safe road use”, the FRSC spokesman said.
