2023 Elections: Abuja Online Publishers say nation building paramount, put admission of new members on hold

News websites publishers under the aegies of Abuja Online Publishers(OAP), have insisted that the 2023 elections is a project in nation building that must be taken serious by all Nigerians.

As a measure of its commitment to playing a critical role in reporting and disseminating information on issues around the election to properly enlighten Nigerians, it has resolved to suspend some of its activities especially its ongoing drive for new members.

Acting Secretary of the Association, Sola Akingboye, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, January 29.

Akingboye said members of the Steering Committee of newly formed AOP took the decision after the association reached a 50- member milestone barely one week after its inauguration.

“The Steering Committee unanimously resolved to temporarily suspend membership admission to allow us concentrate on the onerous task of Nation Building weeks to the General Elections. During this window, we will perfect our incorporation and compile our digital register for reference purposes”, Akingboye said.

He said the various adhoc committees of the AOP are working assiduously to meet their timelines. The Finance Committee, Akingboye said, had turned in its recommendation with the draft constitution out next week while the logo of the association will be ratified in a General Meeting to be announced soon.

The Acting Secretary stated that overwhelmed by the wide acceptance of the association by all online Publishers, the Acting Chairman of the Association, Martins Odiete, thanked all members for heeding the call.

“On behalf of the Steering Committee, I would like to extend my utmost gratitude to you and your hard work.
Your dedication helped us reach our goal. I deeply appreciate every member of this team for showing relentless effort for this project.

“This progress would not be possible without your contributions. I value your commitment to this vision and look forward to achieving all our milestones together” he quoted Odiete as saying.

Akingboye said with four weeks to the election, the OAP will devote its platforms to educating, informing and sensitizing Nigerians and the global community about the activities of all stakeholders involved in the polls with a view to reporting fair, balanced and accurate updates.

Abuja Online Publishers is an association of all online media with the aim of advocating the invaluable place of verifiable and trusted online news media in a democratic society, and to also encourage diversity, inclusion as benchmarks for high editorial standards.
