DCP Kyari, declared wanted by NDLEA, arrested

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed the arrest of beleaguered police officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP) Abba Kyari.

Kyari was declared wanted by the agency on Monday over his involvement in a 25- kilogramme cocaine deal.

DCP Kyari, suspended since last year in connection with an advance fee fraud case involving Internet celebrity, Hushpuppi, was arrested by the police hours after the NDLEA declared him wanted.

In a statement on Monday, Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, said Kyari, a former head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at the Force Intelligence Bureau of the Nigerian Police Force, was driven into NDLEA headquarters in Abuja at about 5pm alongside four other suspects- ACP Sunday J. Ubua; ASP Bawa James; Inspector Simon Agirgba and Inspector John Nuhu.

The suspects were handed over to the agency for interrogation and further investigation.

Babafemi assured that the NDLEA will ensure that Kyari. the other four suspects and others that may be indicted as the investigation progresses will face the full weight of the law at the end of the probe.
