EDO 2020: PAN CHARGES OBASEKI, IZE-IYAMU, OTHERS ON PEACEFUL ELECTION

With just a few days to go, the key stakeholders in the 2020 Edo State governorship election, Governor Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress(APC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other political parties, have been urged to ensure a peaceful, fair and transparent election.
The election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 19 across the state.
A group, the Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria (PAN), which made the call in Abuja on Wednesday, commended the political parties and the people of Edo State for the peaceful and orderly manner campaign for the election was conducted ahead of the election especially the adherence of the parties to the peace accord.
PAN speaking through Emmanuel Ohiomokhare, it’s spokesman, said a peaceful, a peaceful, transparent, credible and conscience-driven conduct of Saturday’s election in the was indispensable.
“The Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria wishes to remind Edo people that the future of the entire Edo State for the next four years rests solely on the individuals’ choices to be made, which majority outcome shall determine the next Executive Governor of the State. The collective future of Women and Youths in particular shall be determined through the ballot box on Saturday,” Ohiomokhare said.
PAN noted that in view of this, it was important to understand that religion, political party, ethnicity, money politics and tribal sentiments should not take the place of competence, credibility, proven integrity, tested character and good conscience in determining the choice of the next Governor of Edo people.
The group called on INEC being the electoral umpire to ensure transparent and credible conduct of the polls. It urged security and law enforcement agencies to place the sanctity and priority of Edo People uppermost, and refrain from being used by any political party to compromise the choice of Edo People and their future.
“The Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria therefore wishes the good People of Edo State a very peaceful, transparent, participatory and successful polls,” the statement said.
