Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology, who also serves as the All Progressives Congress (APC), South-East Zonal leader, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, on Wednesday, urged all members of the party in the Southeast to make peace their watchword as the 2023 general election draws near.

According to Dr. Onu, the region cannot record positive achievements in future elections, including in 2023, if the house is not united.

The minister who was represented by APC chieftain and immediate past National Vice Chairman of the party, South-East zone, Hon. Emma Enukwu, gave the admonition during a meeting with members of the executive committee of the Enugu State chapter of the party in Enugu.

In his goodwill message, the Minister regretted that the internal crisis within the party had done serious harm to some of the state chapters in the zone.

“You must sheath your sword for the interest and progress of our great party,” Dr. Oni said.

He added that it would be difficult for the party to make progress where rancour and disunity existed.

He urged the aggrieved party faithful in the zone, especially those in Enugu State who recently reconciled their differences maintain the newfound unity.

Speaking in his capacity as a member of the party, Enukwu said the APC has the capacity to wrestle power with the states that are currently being governed by opposition political parties in the region once there is unity if there unity among members.

On the protracted crisis rocking some states in the zone, Enukwu alleged that it was caused by some selfish elements within the party who are being used by outside political forces.

“I want to encourage us; let us be using our brain and wisdom because Enugu State APC has suffered enough crisis. Let us say no to anything called crisis again. We are happy to read in the papers that the crisis in Enugu has been resolved,” he said.
