One Year After Closure, First Flight Lands on Akanu Ibiam Int’l Airport

Over one year after it was closed for repairs, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, recorded its first flight with thel landing of Flight 5N-PAZ on Saturday.

The flight had as its passengers, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, and the renowned philanthropist and business tycoon,  Chief Arthur Eze and others.

The flight landed at the renovated and expanded runway of the Airport at about 4:45pm.

Addressing the journalists the Airport Terminal after rounding off inspection, Sirika expressed joy over the timely completion of the renovation of the facility.

He said, “We are ready for 30th. We landed on the runway. I am glad that I am here. Again we were able to also achieve it on time and within our budget.”

Sirika had been in Enugu for the past few days, in readiness for the official reopening of the airport on Sunday August 30, 2020, for general use.

For his part, oil magnate, Chief Eze expressed happiness over the renovation noting that his people of the South East now have a standard international airport.

The philanthropist who flew alongside the Minister applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts towards the renovation of the Airport.

He also thanked the President for other numerous interventions in the zone.
