COVID-19: Obaseki in zoom meeting with President Buhari, updates him on strategies against pandemic

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki on Tuesday updated President Muhammadu Buhari on strategies his administration is adopting in checking the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19)pandemic in the state.

The governor, who spoke with the President via a zoom meeting, also briefed the present on the economic implications of the pandemic in Edo State.

In a statement after the meeting the Governor said:

“During the zoom meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, I commiserated with him over the passing of his Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari. I also briefed him on Edo State Government’s strategy to combat COVID-19, which is being tweaked daily as we get more insights. We have set a target of testing and screening over 5000 and 500,000 persons respectively. I intimated the president on our strategies to reposition the state’s economy for a post-COVID-19 era, so that we can easily restart our economy and sustain our people’s livelihood”.

The Governor added that he also “updated President Buhari on the political situation in the state, as this is an election year in our dear state.”

The Edo State Government has embarked on a number of strategic actions to halt the spread of the virus in the state, including the imposition of a partial lockdown in the state; a dusk-to-dawn curfew; border restrictions; ban on social gathering of more than 20 persons, closure of schools and relocation of markets, among others.
