SWAG member Kurt Okraku elected as Ghana FA President
The President of Dreams FC went into the polls with five other contestants including two former Vice Presidents George Afriyie and Fred Pappoe as well as President of Phar Rangers FC Nana Yaw Amponsah, Lawyer George Ankomah Mensah and Lawyer Amanda Clinton.
Tagged as ‘The Game Changer’, Kurt Okraku was one of the front runners leading into the historic event. After the first round of voting, Okraku polled 44 votes while Afriyie had 40 votes with Pappoe getting a paltry 6 votes. Nana Yaw Amponsah garnered 27 votes as Lawyers George Ankomah and Amanda Clinton had no votes.
As none of the contestants polled the required fifty percent plus one vote, all was set for a runoff. Fred Pappoe pulled out of the election process leaving Kurt Okraku, George Afriyie, and Nana Yaw Amponsah. At the end of the second round, Kurt Okraku polled 59 votes as George Afriyie had 43 votes with Nana Yaw Amponsah polling 16 votes.
In a dramatic turn of events, George Afriyie conceded defeat leaving only Kurt Okraku in the final round of the election. The SWAG member amassed 93 votes. He will be occupying the seat after Kwesi Nyantakyi resigned following the release of award-winning Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Number 12 documentary.
Meanwhile, the Sports Writers Association of Ghana has officially congratulated its member for his victory and wished him the best of luck in the task ahead of him.
