Former PDP spokesman, Metuh, slumps in court

Olisa Metuh, former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), slumped in court on Monday morning as hearing resumed at a Federal High Court on his N400 million fraud case.

On April 19 this year, his request to travel outside the country to receive proper medical attention abroad, was denied by the judge presiding over the case.

On Monday when trial resumed, the former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP was walking to the dock when he collapsed. Medical personnel and his relatives and associates rush to attend to him.

The incident compelled presiding judge, Justice Okon Abang, to stand down the proceedings to enable Metuh receive medical attention.

Later, there was disagreement between Justice Abang and Metuh’s counsel after the judge said trial should resume. Etiaba demurred insisting his client could not stand trial lying on a stretcher.

“The 1st defendant had a terrible fall while trying to mount the dock, and I don’t even know if he is alive on that stretcher,” Etiaba said.

He said Justice Abang insisted on the trial proceeding, he was withdraw as Metuh’s counsel, a move that was rejected by the presiding judge.

Metuh is charged with laundering N400 million being amount received from former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki(rtd), who has been standing trial for over two years on the allegation of diverting $2.1 billion dollars meant for the purchase of weapons for the Nigerian military.
