BREAKING: INEC Declares Ademola Adeleke winner of Osun Governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Senator Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the governorship election, which held in Osun State on Saturday, July 16.
INEC Chief Returning Officer for the state, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, announcing the result on Sunday morning said Senator Ademola polled 403,371 votes to win the election. He beat the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC),  and thirteen other candidates to emerge Osun State’s governor-elect. Governor Oyetola garnered 375,027 votes to come second in the election.
Announcing the winner, Ogundipe said:
“I hereby declare that Ademola Adeleke “having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected”.
To become the new governor, Senator Adeleke won in 17 of the 30 Local Government Areas(LGAs) of the state while Governor Oyetola won in the remaining 13.
A total of 15 political parties took part in the election.
